At Abbeyfield. We are extremely proud of all our Year 13 students and we are delighted to celebrate in their success. The students have worked very hard to achieve brilliant results which recognises both their commitment and determination.
Once again the results in A Level and BTEC qualifications has been really strong. All our students have demonstrated excellent progress in a diverse range of subjects with over 40% of entries achieving grades A*-B or Distinction*- Merit.
At Abbeyfield we have a very effective and exciting BTEC offer that complements our A level’s and we are very pleased to report that we achieved a 100% pass rate with over half of our BTEC results being graded as either a Distinction* or Distinction. The commitment of students on our vocational courses is something we are rightly very proud of and these results are significantly helping to support applications to both apprenticeships and to university.
In A Level, performance has been particularly strong in Business, Economics and Computer Science with 77% of students achieving grades A*-B in Business Studies and 71% of students achieving grades A*-C in Computer Science, 67% A*C in Economics. Results in Fine Art and Photography were also very impressive with a number of A* results and 100% of Art entries achieving grades A*-C. Likewise results were very strong in languages with 100% A*-B in German and 100% A*-C in French. Outside of these areas we have again seen very solid performance in subjects like History and Geography where students have consistently demonstrated their ability to achieve better than expected grades (based on their grades at entry).
All our students have worked very hard but there are one or two who deserve a special mention. Josh Raby achieved A, A, A in Computer Science, Maths and Physics which is a fantastic effort. Leigh Dunn who has shown immense resilience achieving A* in both Art and Photography demonstrating her incredible talent. Congratulations to Philip Bardy for A, A, C in Computer Science, Maths and Physics, similarly Katie Johnston for A, A, B in Psychology, Sociology and Religious Studies.
As stated we are particularly proud of our BTEC offer and a number of our students followed a mixed pathway of both A levels and BTEC qualifications. Achievements in this area that deserve a special mention are William Matthews who achieved and A in A level Business, B in A Level Economics and Distinction in BTEC IT. Congratulations to Jack Pinchis who achieved an impressive Distinction* in BTEC Business, Distinction in BTEC IT as well as a C in A level Psychology. Additionally a very well done to Daniel Goss and Tyler Cole who both gained two Distinction grades in their respective BTEC courses.
These impressive results will see the crop of 2019 accessing a range of different destinations from University, Apprenticeships and Employment with training – we look forward to reporting on where our students are going and how they are doing shortly.
