We are very proud of our 6th Form offer, and believe we can rival other local 6th form providers in terms of quality of teaching, and enrichment opportunities.
We aim to inspire excellence! 6th Form teachers and tutors are aspirational for each and every one of our students. This ethos supports students to make exceptional progress during their time in 6th Form.
We are the only local school to offer both Duke of Edinburgh Gold, and a Sports Leadership extra-curricular programme, and 6th Form students at Abbeyfield have the opportunity to lead both our Student Council and our House System. All students will also be involved in volunteering or leadership, to add value to their post-18 offer.
6th FORM OFFER:
Details of our subjects, pastoral support, and extra-curricular offer including student and sports leadership opportunities are set out in detail in our 2020 6th Form Prospectus
You can find out more about subjects in our more detailed subject overviews.
Our minimum entry requirement is 5 x Grade 4 or above GCSE passes. For subject specific entry requirement please see course information in our 6th Form Prospectus.
We are still able to accept late applications from both internal or external students. Any completed submission needs to be emailed to Miss Jones, Head of 6th Form.
Due to Covid19 we are currently unable to offer tours of the school site, but if you would like to arrange a virtual tour of the school and / or meet on-line to discuss our 6th Form offer in more detail, please contact Miss Jones, Head of 6th Form (email@example.com )
Our options blocks for September 2020 are as below, and students will need to study 3 x Level 3 qualifications. In addition, in Year 12 they can also take Core Maths and / or an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), both of which are equivalent to half an A Level in terms of UCAS tariff points.
The blocking of subjects will be based around student choices to ensure that as many students can study their chosen courses as possible.
EPQ’s are started in Year 12, or even following exams in Year 11, and submitted no later then T3 of Year 13, whilst Core Maths exams are sat in May of Year 12.
On receipt of Centre Assessed Grades on Results Day, students will be asked to complete an Enrolment Form. Covid19 permitting, will be completed in school on Results Day in conjunction with a senior teacher, if not we will provide these electronically to be submitted by emails.
Miss Jones, Head of 6th Form, and other senior teachers will be available to meet in school, or on-line to support any students who need to discuss options prior to making final decisions.
Covid19 has meant we have been unable to provide our usual term 6 induction offer, and have instead provided a series of stepping-up tasks to support students to make final subject choices. If, having completed this, anyone is still undecided we will be able to be more flexible in allowing students time to make a final decision in the first two weeks of Year 12.
A final word from one of our students: “Starting 6th Form was a daunting time because it was a new stage of my life, but from the first day I walked through those doors I felt comfortable. From the second I step into school to the second I leave I am constantly laughing and smiling. I couldn’t think of a better 6th Form to be at”.
If you have any questions about our admission process, please contact Miss Jones, Head of 6th Form: firstname.lastname@example.org
